Sylvain Pagès boatman on the Courant d'Huchet

Sylvain is one of the boatmen of the Courant d’Huchet in Léon. A “courant” is a stream or river connecting an inland lake on the littoral to the sea, a common local geographical feature. Sylvain’s famous “galupe” travels up and down the Courant d’Huchet, jewel of the Côte Landes Nature.

“It’s always such a pleasure as each season begins in our little Garden of Eden! Sailing calmly along the water is my great passion, and something I really couldn’t go without.”

The Landes, between wetlands, forest and dunes

It’s always such a pleasure as each season begins in our little Garden of Eden! Sailing calmly along the water…

Each boatman owns his own “galupe,” typical vessel of the fishermen of the lake, with its pointed prow and flat bottom, allowing to travel everywhere, with oars on the lake and with a punting pole on the river. Our passengers will find themselves in the heart of an exotic landscape in the Landes, which has a flavour of the bayou in Louisiana or the Amazonian rainforest canopy.

The Landes natural reserves

The plant life is exceptional, with reed beds, hibiscus, ferns and bracken, and you’ll often find yourself face to face with unexpected wildlife – herons, kingfishers, ducks, dragonflies, water rats, otters, deer or even wild boar!
